Some May Lose Internet Access July 9th 2012

Despite recent alerts, thousands of Americans may lose internet service Monday because of “malware” that could have infected their computer more than a year ago.

According to the FBI, the computers were exposed to the malware viruses by a cyber crime ring that infected hundreds of thousands of computers worldwide, which lead to 14 million dollars in illegal income.

Officials believe about 64,000 people in the U.S. could be affected.

People whose computers are infected will lose their ability to go online, and will have to call their service providers for help.

By visiting a website set up by the FBI called www.dcwg.org users can click to see if their computer is infected. An image with a green background appears if they’re OK, while a red one shows up if they’re not. If infected, they’re then directed to information on how to remove the malware.
