Olympic blade runner Oscar Pistorius
What a great Athlete Oscar is. He is a great inspiration to many. Congrats Oscar to show many that it can be done. Don't let any type of handicap get in your way because Oscar has proved it can be done. Great Job Olympic 'Blade Runner' inspires U.S. servicemembers BETHESDA, Md. – Among the myriad chest-tightening, tear-jerking stories being told of athletes overcoming hardship at the 2012 Olympics, it's hard to compete with the one about a sprinter standing proudly atop carbon-fiber legs. Oscar Pistorius— called the "Blade Runner," for his two prostheses — will be the first amputee to ever compete in Olympic track. The 25-year-old South African will not be the fastest runner in the 400 meters in London on Saturday, but to a historic number of disabled veterans returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and to millions of disabled people around the world, Pistorius embodies something much bigger than an athletic competition. "Oscar's running in the Olympics is a seminal moment," says Kirk Bauer, executive director of Disabled Sports USA and a 64-year-old Vietnam War veteran who lost his left leg serving in the Army in 1969. "It really shows how far physically challenged people have come. This is nothing short of revolutionary." http://www.usatoday.com/sports/olym...pics/56717078/1 By Janice Lloyd, USA TODAY |
