With poker listed as the No. 1 internet search term by Lycos for 2008, it seems fitting that PokerStars will try to break a record related to online poker.
According to numerous reports, PokerStars will be holding a poker tournament on December 28, 2008 and it would like upwards of 35,000 people to partake and the closer to the target number the better, especially if every seat is taken. PokerStars' tournament lobby states that, "This is an official attempt at the Guinness world record for World’s Largest Poker Tournament! $500,000 is guaranteed," according to the pokernewsdaily.com. Buy-in will be $10+1 according to the pokernetwork.com with 3,500 tables to begin the tournament and blinds will increase frequently "with 10 minute levels providing more of a Turbo tournament feel." PokerStars held a similar event previously, which drew 20,000 players, awarded $20,000 to the winner (Lynna1) and was unofficially dubbed "the largest cash tournament ever held" at the time. Obiviously, the aim is to set an official record this time around with the good people at the Guinness book of records to back it up. The tourney begins on December 28, 2008 at 3:30 pm EST and as of last Friday, there were reportedly 516 entries. The Guinness Book of Records' London office usually takes six weeks to confirm legitimacy of a record. |
