In case you haven't noticed, fall is in the sports betting air. The first BCS rankings of 2008 have come out, the NFL season has been going for weeks, the NHL season has started and the NBA will do so next week.
Another sign of autumn is the running of the Breeders' Cup, generally considered to be the end of the year Thoroughbred horse racing championship. This year's event will go on Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California in the United States with a number of races going between October 24 and 25 culminating with the Breeders' Cup Classic to close out the two-day event. Post positions for the Classic have been drawn, odds have been set and go as follows: (1) Go Between 8-1 (2) Casino Drive 10-1 (3) Tiago 15-1 (4) Duke of Marmalade 10-1 (5) Henrythenavigator 10-1 (6) Smooth Air 50-1 (7) Student Council 20-1 (8) Raven's Pass 6-1 (9) Curlin 7-5 (10) Fairbanks 10-1 (11) Colonel John 20-1 (12) Champs Elysees 15-1 Curlin, who also won the event last year and is Horse of the Year, is the odds-on favorite at Santa Anita to repeat at 7-5. Odds are steeper at bet365 as the 2007 champ is listed at 7/4 and Pinnaclesports.com has Curlin listed at 3/2 against the field in a matchup bet. There will nothing spoiled for the owner of the winning horse as total purse will be for the amount of $5 million. |
