PORTLAND over Dallas
The Trail Blazers are firing on all cylinders and will catch and take care of a road wary Mavericks team Wednesday Night. Looking at the MTi Sports exclusive SDQL trends, it becomes even clearer Portland is the correct side for this one.
The Trail Blazers have won two straight and five of six coming into this one and are in the third game of a four game home stand. The most impressive of these victories was the last, a 111-94 win over the Lakers Monday night that was not as close at that score indicates. The Blazers led by 28 after three quarters. Also in that stretch is a 102-84 home victory over San Antonio. Clearly Portland is having no trouble defeating the West’s elite at home this season. In fact they are 5-1 ATS and SU against western conference teams with a .600+ winning percentage at home this season.
In Monday night’s game the Trail Blazers only turned the ball over 10 times. This activates a trend where the Trail Blazers are 13-0 ATS (9.4 ppg) since January 24, 2002 at home with at most one day of rest after a win in which their field goal attempt per turnover ratio was at least eight.
The last matchup saw Dallas narrowly defeat Portland at home, 104-99, on February 4th. In that game, Dallas shot 55% from the field. This actives a trend where the Trail Blazers are 9-0 ATS (9.7 ppg) since March 10, 1996 at home when seeking revenge for a loss in which they allowed at least 55% shooting from the field.
Dirk Nowitzki only had 16 points in that last meeting and was the Mavickers 4th scorer in the game. The Mavericks are 0-6 ATS (-8.8 ppg) since February 11, 2008 on the road after winning the previous matchup in which Dirk Nowitzki was not the Mavericks' high scorer. Finally, Brandon Roy played an uncharacteristic game in that contest, committing five turnovers while only dishing out two assists. The Trail Blazers are 5-0 ATS (9.9 ppg) since February 20, 2007 after losing the previous matchup on the road in which Brandon Roy had more turnovers than assists.
Dallas is coming into this matchup with no rest and a late flight after a hard fought win at Phoenix on Tuesday night. Dallas had to use everything they had to come back in that one and will be spent tonight.
Take the Trail Blazers and ride its great streak of play to the victory.
