Any good homepage that diskusses advanced strategies?

jazz123
http://www.stanleyacropolis.com/ offers PaiGow Poker which allows you to be the banker.
www.thewizardofodds.com (http://www.thewizardofodds.com) would be a good start to learn this game.

Thanks

I just recantly started to play Pai Gow and found it very amusing.

I have looked at the WOO webpage but he only speaks about when splitting pairs. I am not sure about a more general question. Is it allways best to make high hand the best possible fx when having both pairs and straigt or flush?

Most online casinos seem to use the same rules for Paigow. I always check so I don't get any nasty surprises, but there's not a lot of variation for Paigow.

I've just been checking out Stanley Acropolis in the last few days. I haven't deposited yet but they seem to have a good reputation so they'll probably be getting some of my money in the next couple of days. They let you either play two hands at once or play a single hand with the option to be the banker every other round. Or you could play two hands, then one hand as the banker, then two hands.... The demo plays kind of slow, and I don't imagine things speed up any when you get online. Of course, you don't lose as fast that way. ;)

As to whether you should always make the high hand the best you can, I think that's all part of your own personal strategy. If the dealer's having a bad day and I'm up, I'm more likely to take some chances and split up small pairs, etc. If the dealer is killing me, I'll make the best 5-card hand I can in the hopes of at least getting a push and sticking around to play one more round. But that's just me. Part of the fun of playing is figuring out what works best for you.

I always split my two pairs. And if you have a full house, split the 3 of kind and the pair.

"And if you have a full house, split the 3 of kind and the pair."

I do to, but is it the right strategy in the long run?

HKPlayer
Yes, the best strategy is to split the full house, and it is the best way to play in long run.

Of course there are certain hands I don't spilt a full house. :p

For example:

A,K,5,5,5,2,2

Will you split the full house in this case?

:p

king888
I would not split, but I am not sure itīs right. Are you?

HKPlayer
Of course I would not split. In this case there is not a great difference between 2,2 and A,K.

One of the reason is, the dealer can only beat your first hand if he has 2,2 or above. Since you already have 2,2, it is very likely that he would not have 2,2 for his first hand to make it a draw.

2,2 is slighty better than A,K only, while there is great difference between 3 of a kind and full house.

king888
I think you are right in that specific case. Where is border line? What would you do with fx A,Q or A,Kn or K,Q etc

king888
or sligtly higher pair?

Got2Bet
HK Player is right. However, a lot of what one does may depend on the specific rules of the house - and if you happen to know the house way, which is the way the dealer is supposed to set his hand when given a certain set of cards, you may also make fine adjustments there.

If you go to the Wizard of Odds, I believe he has a specific set of rules for determining the value of the front pair and the back hand - you should add these values up in order to determine the correct play in nearly all cases.

If it is not on his website, then it will certainly be in his upcoming book. Or else I will probably ask his permission to reprint the Pai Gow Poker segment since we have been featuring excerpts from the book at Got2Bet.

Spearmaster is absolutely right. For the average player, the Wizard of Odds article will serve you very well. For the advanced Pai Gow Poker player, I recommend buying Stamford Wong's excellent book.

Only play this game when YOU can become the banker. The Stanley Acropolis game is truly fantastic.

I also play occasionally in Atlantic City. The problem is there is usually TOO MUCH money on the table for me to become the banker. I wait till the early morning hours when the tables are dead and its just me and one or two other players that are betting peanuts. ($10 or $15 a hand). I recently had a situation come up whereby both myself and the player next to me had a copy hand. Situations like this make it all worthwhile.

Got2Bet
LMAO.

The funny thing is I usually don't bank - especially because of the situations Dave has encountered in AC.

You can only bank every other hand, provided the opportunity has been offered to everyone else at the table and rejected. If accepted by another player, you must wait at least one more hand, since the casino always gets to be the bank every other hand.

But if you have the money, you should ALWAYS ALWAYS bank - can't remember the edge statistic but I believe it is like 2.8% or something similar - since the banker will always win ties.

The Wizard, if I recall correctly, also attributes his strategy chart to Stanford Wong.

The Stanley Acropolis game is good. Graphics are ordinary but the game plays well otherwise. And you certainly don't have to worry about integrity here.

And be on the lookout for their upcoming Crockfords Casino. I believe it is scheduled to be launched in the coming months.
