View Thread : Slot Lovers? Anyone? Strategies? Superstitions?

dpc123
Hello Everyone!! (I hope I don't have many typos...if I do...sorry...I'll go back and edit tomorrow if I am able to edit them...

Let me say, I really enjoy reading here...but don't post much, except about cash-ins, money holds, etc. Blah! Blah! Blah! Blah!

So I wanted to change that but was afraid to talk about this subject, (seeing it's rarer around here) but I hope I get a receptive audience who likes slots and are knowledgeable in "any" way possible because this interests me and I love to play slots, but I like to win sometimes too!! :) Some of you only play BJ, Poker, etc., but I can't help it...I could kill anyone at Rummy (Ha! but much cheaper sport in my case)...so PLEASE don't "mock" :p me because I never learned how to be an expert poker player, blackjack player, etc. Slots are so fun to me! But had I ever learned how to play poker, I think I would have been good at it...being my father's daughter IF you knew him...but I never did learn...just Rummy! Ha!

All about SLOTS???
Well, I've been searching all the time here for any advice/information from people who play online, so I hope you don't mind me posting this here because I just don't see that much advice on slots...and that's what I enjoy playing...I could play my heart out...(bad mistake...first "no no.") Since I recognize that there aren't as many people here discussing slots, I would love to talk about and to discuss strategies if others are willing to share. Forgive me if I make no sense or make you laugh, (I certainly am NO pro as you can tell)...just searching for input and wanting to share ideas and I've always loved slots, especially when they were brought online.

Some of you, as I just posted on another thread, are amazing to me with your knowledge and know-how of some of the other games to me. But I sort of feel silly because slots are just about placing your bet and pulling the wheel...but is there strategy. I believe there's some...but really good strategy is what I am wanting to know.

As far as slots go, I HAVE read a few winning strategies HERE, although I would love to read more. One thing I think I read here was about doubling your money: This can become most players worst pitfalls, one of the "queen of slot pitfalls": not realizing that doubling your money is a win. So here's an idea I ponder since I heard "You double it, then you cash out: So, say I have doubled my money...do I cash out and call it a day...quit all together...and be proud of my winnings? (I do notice that IF that machine is tired of giving IF it does double, WHAM!, the money goes very quickly down to nothing) Or if I want to play some more, is it best to cash my winnings in and make another deposit, a smaller one to make sure I still have some winnings. Or is it best possibly to play at another casino and hope for the same luck?...would it matter if it were the sister site of the casino where I won? I know you can argue you can play all night IF you want to spend the money...but what are the pros and cons of this? Cash in and leave...or redeposit a smaller amount and try again at the same casino or wish for luck at another one...is it all Lady Luck? I do have some good luck in doubling when I do play at my favorite casinos...I rarely cash-in and make another deposit from my account, except a couple of times after a cash-in, but I can't remember if it was like starting over on a new game. If you've won there...should you even attempt to start over from scratch and push your luck?

I know that if you do double your money, it's so tempting when you go to another slot and/or see a jackpot and wonder what the odds are and know that there's no chance in "Iraq" that you'll ever win it...I know some do hit the jackpot online, but I've personally never seen that person ONLY in a banner...I would REALLY love to hit an online jackpot...who wouldn't, I suppose...what a thrill? Plus it's hard to want to stop when you just started IF you are lucky enough to double your money. I do realize that control is so important in slots.

I also read that you should NEVER cash in then take that money back and play with it. Well, I've done that several times and many times I've had my bigger winnings, so for me, maybe it's the casino? I say this because I did the same at another casino and it killed me instantly...it played awfully after I did that.

Slots are SO unpredictable, although I've seen a pattern or two that I can go by, like on the Fantastic 7s, but nothing with the other slots I love to play. When the 7s line up on the bottom or the top row, eventually I hit three sevens...or a decent win...but a few times it has wanted to take me down WAY too far before it gave them to me...only teasing me...but it usually does pay something when I see that line-up

Anyway, again, I've searched here before and was surprised that I never found as much on this subject, but IF anyone is interested I would love to hear some ideas/superstitions (I have those, too). I feel so dumbfounded, yet intrigued, by the PROS here who play all the other games so I am out in left field on some of these other games, so I figured I could at least talk about my little, silly slots.

If you know of any secrets/helpful hints that help with slots and don't mind sharing, I'd love to hear them. My favorite games: I prefer the three reel slots other than a couple of others: here's my favorites...Fantastic 7s, High Five, MegaSpin High Five, (sometime) Double Magic, Cash Splash, Lots of Loot (sp??), WoW Pot (it's "okay")... I don't play the five reel or anything like that, except for one multi-reel slot, which kills me every time, Lots of Loot...(I call it Lots of Losers)!

Some things I've gathered to share also:
I was reading something about helpful hints that I have read here and there and thought I would also add these. What do you think of these?

1. Regular Slots or "Straight" Slots offer the most realistic odds.
2. A Slot machine with more reels give you the chance to win more money.
3. Don't always place the same bet...have a strategy so you don't do this! The up the steps method or the elastic method are popular. Like, IF you start by betting one coin and then you win, you then increase the bet another coin, and if the winning continues, then you increase it all the way to the to the maximum play. Only play Maximum coins when you are winning. Drop the bet to a middle bet if you start losing.
If this continues, drop to the minimum bet. IF the cycle repeats itself and you start to win, increase your bet until you get to the maximum bet until you start to lose again.
4. Don't play "catch up" from what you lost the night before!!!

Well, as for
#1, I do like these the best...so that's good. The simpler the better for me!
#2. I have only recently found this to be true for me, but I can lose a lot quicker also. So I have to pace myself with this one.
3. ANY ideas on this one? This is ONE I would LOVE to hear about, also because I don't like to change my bet that often...scares me. I thought it always ruined any streak of luck I was having (as it has...but I don't go up and down quite as often as above states), but then again, maybe I went to the maximum bet, got frustrated (a great way of losing), and stayed with the higher bet until the nightmare was over.
4. I do agree that greed or "catch up" also can be a reason why many lose many times. So many times I may win but then I remember how much I lost the day before and I chase that down...and down I go! I have done that SO many times! That is definitely something that I have tried to remember and I think I read that on this forum. This is something I learned is a truth overall!

Nevertheless, when I lose, I do have that drive to keep playing because I like to play and don't want the game to end. I could say it's not always because of the winning factor (although subliminally I would think that more winning is the biggest factor and would only be fooling myself if I didn't): Proof: after winning, I could always go to a cheaper slot and bet a penny but then the excitement for me would be taken away, but yet hopefully would make me want to quit, which is what I need sometimes. Self-control!!! Yes! So winning has to be MY biggest factor if betting a penny is as dull to me as skipping rocks. I admit!!!

I'd also like to know about what I mentioned above: If you WIN at one casino at slots...should you cash out and move on to another casino if that playing drive is still in you? I do notice duplicate winners at the same casino, but not as often. IF I win a nice amount and cash out (which isn't often enough), I feel like I am jinxed the next time I play at that casino... It seems the slots play worse for me.

Superstitions I have:
1. When I hit a decent hit on a particular game, usually it start to go down, so I leave the game and play another one; then I come back to it. I've noticed that helps pick up speed.
2. When I've hit a winner that's decent, I've also shut down the casino (and gone so far as to restart my computer) and then gone back to the same game...like the gaming software will forget who I am! Ha!
3. I get scared to change my bet, unless I spin one reel so it stays at that bet, the run from that game and go to another one, OR shut down the software and restart the computer. (Well, this is more for humor...not that bad, but IT COULD happen with me.)
4. IF my husband walks into the room (I'm not supposed to be playing at all) ...for some reason that software KNOWS he's there and I lose worse than ever! Ha! Actually, I turn the casino off so fast and start e-mailing a friend, while I try so hard to calm my nerves, resenting him because I was on a ROLL! I just know would have hit the Mega Millions or whatever, had he not walked in! Just kidding. Then he says..."Are you typing so and so, an ex-boyfriend?"

With all those quirky superstitions, I am sure I have more...I probably don't even realize I have some.
Okay...so I am superstitious...but so many men do the same during the playoffs! Ha!

Anyway, I hope to hear some strategies on cashing out, going back to the same casino, going up and down on your bet, switching to another casino, or any other ideas or quirky superstitions!

Thanks for reading my post!!!!

WOW you said a mouth full. :)
I watch this post alot but have never signed up to post till I saw your request.
I love online slots too....Been playing them for a little over a year now.

You asked a few good questions....let me see if i can give my answer to some of them.

"2. A Slot machine with more reels give you the chance to win more money."

I love the multiline bonus slots!!!! I have hit some $$ on them, I like them too because I am a "low" roller, I don't spend that much at a time...$50.00 dep is good to me. I start with the multiline bonus ones to build up my pot, then i can play some of the higher dollar ones. I have hit well in megaspin high 5 and the wheel of wealth and spectacualar wheel of wealth. But love the bonus ones.

"3. Don't always place the same bet...have a strategy so you don't do this!"
I move my bet around till I find the "sweet spot". This may be Superstition, I don't know...but it works for me. for example: I have noticed that Ladies Night (microgaming slots) seems to like 36 cents, I usually start there...and move the number of coins or the domination amount around till it hits.
I have a routine...I start at say 36 cents..it hits free spins....after free spins, I bump it up...hit freespins again...move it up again..
sometimes i move the number of coins, sometimes the amount.
I did this one night...was up to 1.35 a spin...hit free spins...and 4 wilds, for 900.00 win!!!
If I don't hit anything, I move to another machine.

I find that when I hit a big one at a casino...and do a cash out...that casino won't hit for me again for at least a couple of weeks. So I play somewhere else. There are alot of reputable casinos out there...but be sure to check this site and other watch dog sites before you try a new one.
I have noticed that when I try a new site....i usually hit!! maybe Superstition again....lol

I also noticed that when the casinos have released new games...the slots are really loose....
Day of the week to play?? hummmm....not sure...but hubby and I have noticed that they seem to hit better after midnight...our time...some times around 3pm est.
I did see someone post somewhere....Tuesdays where better...but I don't know...I have won Monday through Sunday...lol

You talked about your husband....I about fell on the floor laughing.
There are times when I am hitting really good....hubby walks over....they stop hitting!!!! then again. sometimes they dont' start hitting till he walks over...
I think I hurt his feelings when I tell him to go away....rofl

In short....try changing up your bet sometimes...
Try new casinos if one stops hitting and/or you have done a cashout.

As for when to cash out.....I am a bad one on that too...
When i get my pot built, that is when i try the big payout ones... but I try to keep in my mind....if i put in $50 i want out $100
But usually if i start hitting big...I will cash out at least 2x my dep. but if i get my pot to 500....will cash out 400 and play around with the other 100.

Everyone has there Superstitions and ways of playing slots. I don't think there is any scientific facts..like in Blackjack or poker, because slots are totally random....but you can tell when they are hitting..and when they are not.
I move around to different slots at the land casinos too....and have done well doing it...so I just apply the same theory to online.
But it's easier to move from one machine to another online...lol.....don't have to carry around all that change :-)

This is all my humble opinion....so noone bash me either. :)
PM me if you want some site links....watchdog groups etc.

Re. whether they hit better on certain days - well, I think they hit better when more people are playing, so there are some days as well as times of day as well as times of the year when they hit more.

Just what I see in my own play - no statistics.

Actually, there are not enough statistics available in slots, which leaves everyone to draw wild conclusions from what may be only coincidence.

Dominique,

What kind of bird do you have in the picture? I have an African Grey...just wondering. I love birds...just not the clean up!

Well, it sure seems to me that I hit better when more people are playing or around a day when more people do play. I need to send you that "tip" I read, but I'll have to type it out first...it wouldn't allow me to copy and paste...and IF I scanned it, it's very dark!

I have never tried it, but was wondering if you'd heard of it. Just give me some time to type it and I'll PM it to you.

The bird is Lora, a Military Macaw. She talks a lot - but these days she is mostly talking to her own babies. At the time of the picture she was still a baby herself.

I am looking forward to your PM!

Funny, Gaputernut, I didn't even respond to your post because I thought it was mine because I thought I wrote only the long posts! Ha! :) So you got me, too!!!! Besides, when I'm typing, I'm saving MONEY, ha!

Well, you have a very smart way of playing and I DO like that! I won this weekend and turned around and won again...but was TOO ****Y the second night, as if the honeymoon could last forever and I LOST the second night's winnings! So dumb! But I am TRYING and I am doing better at cashing in but have A LOT to be desired from my weekend! My husband had he seen what I had done would have had heart failure.

I thought the 5th was a BAD night for me...maybe it was because, like you said, I HAD won...and I feel like they "KNOW" that and it was terrible but I did have a few lucky streaks...but not lucky enough for me!

On that #2, I need to go find my printout: - THIS is what I READ now, NOT what I felt but what I had read : ...However, I thought it meant a game like MEGA??SPIN...I you know what that is. However, it DID say to try to avoid multiple-payline slots because though it seems like your odds would be better with the increase in paylines, supposedly the payout rates are not quite as good as those found on single-payline slots. HOWEVER, I KNOW YOU TWO LADIES WOULD DISAGREE WITH THIS ONE!!! I wouldn't know on that because the aren't my forte! BUT IF it works for you, then do it!!! But what I read actually was saying that the THREE REEL slot machine with only one payline has the best percentages! (That's a game like Fantastic 7's, right???) - Well, if that's the case...no such luck for me overall. I was thinking MULTI-GAMES at once for me...

BUT that's just what I read and was sharing it for your thoughts, which are obviously proven wrong in your cases!!! But's it's fun to share!

I've been moving my bet and having better luck, but I think I need to stay with the best bet that is "working" and not stray so quickly. After yesterday, I knew there was NOTHING I could do on MY GAME to make it do great...the fourth of July and the weekend just zapped it, as far as I am concerned!

As for the .36 bet, I could NEVER be so lucky! But YOU have really good strategies and common sense...which is a biggie! You stop on what I would say was a small win (I'd want to keep on), which is what I NEED to do because it still is a win, and IF I could have all of those back! Wow!

I have a couple of sites in mind, JUST from Dominique and from reading here! So NOW that I've been here, I wouldn't play anywhere without researching it! NEVER!

New games: when I look at the winner's boards, a lot of the winners ARE from the new featured games, so I do believe they are looser!

I am NOT going to play where I won this weekend! NO way! It died on me yesterday, like I said, so I believe it's good to wait a while, too!

Oh, you may KNOW this already and it seems like a common strategy IF you really think about it, but IF you play in a land casino, I read that the looser slots are usually in the middle of the casino or where all the traffic is because THAT is what they want the rest of the casino players to see: the winners! That makes sense to me! Smart advertising!

Glad you laughed about my husband, but it is true sometimes...some of it is...and he does mess up my streak! Ha! He really messed it up last night! :D

You two girls hit on the Wheel of Wealth...no such luck for me...I've played it a good bit but gave up on it...I don't know what I did but it never did a thing for me...should I have changed my bet with that particular game, too?

Well, thanks for all the input! I was going by some things I read and some crazy things I think and do...btw...I've found 1:00 A.M. a good time, and a bad time for me is: after a holiday that paid out, like tonight and yesterday!

DOMINIQUE... :)

I have to type that crazy little trick that I read that I was telling you about so that's why I am SO SLOW...and I haven't even started it yet! I think I can make it simple though by cutting and pasting some...but I haven't forgotten! I want to see what you think or if you've ever heard of it...-I could share it with both of you!

OH, how sweet about the bird! So you know how to raise babies??? I think that is so great to see her talking to her babies!!!! I used to go to the pet store and just DREAM of a bird like that. I ended up getting the African Grey and he's PLENTY for me to handle...his name is Chicken Bird. He never shuts up! He's on the porch for the summer but come winter time....it's talking season!

I love birds, any kind...a Carolina Wren was in my garage a few weeks ago and I had noticed her in there strangely flying around...but then she somehow died in there and later we found a nest with two tiny eggs. I wanted to save them so bad, but it was too late...I wouldn't know what to do if I could. But that was so sad to me because the mother died to get those eggs hatched!

Do you raise different types of birds? Macaws are just beautiful...I wanted a good talking bird...but I would love a ****atoo...I think the rose breasted one is the one I just adored years ago...but all of the hand tamed ones I've seen are just like babies...toddlers sometimes...need that attention! Macaws were always my favorite when I first started...but I just know I would make him mad one day and there goes my finger! ...no, but they started to intimidate me after my dad had a VERY mean African Grey. I was SCARED to get the same bird, but the owner convinced me that my bird was sweet and it is a sweet bird. What is it the Haycienth MaCaw (blue) that is so rare and so expensive...though I would bet yours is not so common either?

Okay, I am calling it a night! That's for all the input and the fun!

gaputernut
LOL...i got confused with the name too.

Try the multi spin ....I know they are confusing at first, but play for just 9 cents. Once you play them a bit...you will see their advantages.
I usually play them when i am low on money, since you can hit 3 scatters to activate free spins. (spring break, thurnderstruck, ladies night ) during the free spins, all hits are tripled. So...you can build up your pot again.
They were confusing to me too...was really intimated by them...but now i am hooked. Just play low, and enjoy the game, they are fun.

Wish there was some way for me to stand next to you...and explain when you hit. :)

dpc123
You and Dominique have talked me into it: at least to try soon! I will play at another place to practice first!

IF you have ANY more tips on that type, I would appreciate it very much!

Thanks! :)
