View Thread : Bllackjack - One hand or Multihand?

Hi all,

I was just wondering what are the personal preferences of other players in regards to whether it's better to play one or two (or more...) hands of blackjack at the same time? Do you think it even matters stats-wise?

The house edge is the same, so if you are playing basic strategy, you expect to lose the same amount whether you are playing 2 hands at $5 or 1 hand at $10. The main difference is the variance (volatility of your bankroll) is smaller when you are playing 2 hands. (There is a tiny advantage to playing 2 hands, you see more cards and you can sometimes deviate from basic strategy. E.g., the dealer is showing a 10, on the first hand you get four 5's, on the second hand you have 10, 6, basic strategy says hit, but it is in fact better to stand in this situation. )

Card counters may play two hands when the count is high to make most of the favourable situation, but this is not applicable to most online casinos which shuffle the cards before each game.
