I just tried to do a message search by member name. The problem is that the member name is only two letters long. When I tried the search I was informed that I needed to use at least three letters to do a search. There should be a way to go around that and search anyway.

I pretty much agree. I'd asked about this but was told that searches with just a couple letters were a BAD idea because of the server overhead involved.

Apparently this message board system does "pre-searches" in that it builds tables for all search possibilities _in_advance_ which means that a lot of storage is committed to searches that may or may not ever happen. If you allow two letter searches then those requirements rise exponentially as compared to three letter searches, etc, etc, blah blah blah.

I'd asked our tech admin about that early on in the process and what it boiled down to was this: the search restriction is just a side-effect of using this message board package and if we wanted to go this way we'd have to live with the fact that two-letter searches would never be feasible as long as the search mechanism remained as it is. So for now it is unfortunately just one of those things that ain't going to happen. Sorry I didn't have a better answer for you.
